Why Is Water Dripping from Your Indoor AC Unit?
An air conditioner cools by pulling moisture out of the air. Normally, this condensed water flows through a drain pipe to the outdoors. When something disrupts this gravity drain system, water overflows into your room.
1. Choked or Algae-Blocked Drain Pipe
Over time, dust and humidity form a jelly-like algae buildup inside the narrow PVC drain line. When water cannot escape, it backs up into the internal drain pan and drips from the sides.
2. Improper Indoor Unit Leveling
Split AC indoor units must be installed with a subtle, precision tilt toward the drainage corner. If mounting brackets become loose or were misaligned during installation, water collects in the opposite corner and spills over.
3. Frozen Evaporator Coils Melting
When airflow is restricted by thick dirt on the filters, the cooling coil temperature drops below freezing point. A thick layer of ice forms. When you turn off the AC, this block of ice melts faster than the drainage channel can handle.
